New Media Associates, Inc. was founded
in 1994 as a Massachusetts-based "S" corporation.
Bill Plante, President and Creative Director of New Media, co-founded
the company with a focus on using the emerging modalities of media
to foster education and communication. For several years, the company
had a nearly exclusively educational focus, developing custom, media-based
programs for a very wide range of clients, including Jordan's Furniture
(Aducation, 1994-1998 which taught thousands of Massachusetts 5th
graders about the methods and motives of commercial advertising)
City Year (in-service training for staff on production and media
literacy) and, perhaps most notably, Flashpoint, an innovative multi-media
educational program developed with the Essex County District Attorney's
Office with funding from US Dept. of Justice.
Flashpoint is designed to use commercial media to foster critical
thinking and better decision making among court-involved juveniles.
The program, which is now widely used in DYS and probative settings
throughout Massachusetts and in many other jurisdictions around
the US, focuses on the prevention of violence, substance abuse and
acts of intolerance. Former Essex County District Attorney Kevin
M. Burke played a key role in the program's development. At the
program level, Ruth Budelmann, who has stayed on as director of
juvenile programs at the Essex County DA's office after the retirement
of DA Burke, played a large role in its development.
During the 1990s, New Media led and participated in dozens of in-service
and direct-service trainings of teachers, law-enforcement professionals
and in seminars and symposia ranging from church basements to the
JFK Library to the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.
During the late 1990s the company's increased facility in media
production enabled us to develop relationships with private-sector
clients. Today the company, still based in Amesbury, Massachusetts,
lists medical practices, food suppliers, banks and real-estate developers
among its clients.
In 2005, New Media Associates embarked upon a strategic growth plan
that is centered on enabling our clients to learn from and better
serve their customer base. Carter Welch, as Director of Client Success
is leading this effort. Carter has enjoyed an extensive background
in strategic marketing, brand building, and organizational consulting
in the fields of consumer packaged goods, high tech, and a broad
range of service industries. In 1999, Carter was named by "Advertising
Age" as one of their "Top 100 Marketers of the Year",
a prestigious honor citing his work in build a large national business
from under $10 to over $50 million in just three years.
Other key players at New Media include Tim Webb, a specialist in
graphics, web design and digital video editing; Joe Plante, videography,
editing and multi-media specialist, James Fitzgerald, lighting and
audio engineering (James' credits include CNN, Discovery, ESPN and
countless national program productions). New Media draws upon a well-established
array of strategic partners in production and digital distribution
resources to scale to any client need.
